Banko Chelchele

Yirgacheffe is one of our favourite Regions as it produces beautiful tasting coffee known for big, bright and floral flavours. This coffee is grown in Banko Chelchele, in the Gudeo region Yirgacheffe. Yirgacheffe is in Southern Ethiopia. 

The Gudeo regions altitude, soil and climate create the ideal growing conditions and the community's expertise in coffee farming has solidified its reputation as a coffee growing hub.

Coffee growing here isn't just a source of income, but a way to bring the community together. During harvest season many families come together, this creates a sense of unity and shared purpose.

Only ripe cherries are picked from the trees with unripe, overripe and defect cherries removed to ensure only high quality cherries are processed. Cherries are then placed on raised sun beds to dry for 2-4 weeks and turned frequently to ensure even drying until optimal moisture levels are reached. 

After the drying process is complete, the coffee's are stored in a cool room for a few weeks to develop the flavours.  The beans are then hulled and then milled.
